29th August 2006 Windsurfing: Essaouira Wind Direction: N Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Overcast Max Speed: Distance Covered: 1st day in Morocco: Arrived 3pm to be greeted by no wind. :( But whilst taking a walk along the beach it seemed to be picking up, enough to get me out on my 5.8. So I pegged it back to the hotel and hastily rigged up. Of course by the time I hit the water it had dropped again. I blobbed around and intentionally drifted downwind to where small waist-high groundswell-driven waves were coming through in sets. A few attempts at pumping onto them were fairly unsuccessful, but then the wind did pick up enough to get me planing solidly and I managed a couple of short rides. It didn't last for long though (i.e. about 15 minutes...), leaving me with a long walk back to the hotel, fortunately with Rod's help (cheers rod). A pretty crap session but at least I got out on the water on our first afternoon in Morocco. |
